Former Colts Football Player Zurlon Tipton Dies After Shooting Accident



Zurlon Tipton, former running back for the Indianapolis Colts, is reportedly dead after accidentally shooting himself yesterday, Tuesday, June 28. The incident occurred while Tipton was at a car dealership in Roseville, Michigan at 9:30 am, dropping off his jeep to be serviced. He grabbed a duffel bag out of his trunk that had two guns in it. As he was putting personal belongings in the bag, a gun discharged, shooting him in the stomach.

According to Detroit Free Press, police said Tipton was talking while being transported to the hospital. Although he was expected to survive, things took a turn for the worse and he succumbed to his injury. Brian Taylor, a spokesman for the St. John Hospital, confirmed Tipton's death. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Tipton had a concealed pistol license and both of the guns were registered to him. The gun that caused the tragic accident was reported to be  a .45-caliber semi-automatic by Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.

The Detroit native played football in high school and college. He ranked fourth at Central Michigan University for 34 career rushing touchdowns. He played for the Colts from 2014 to 2015, appearing in 16 career games across two seasons.

Tipton died at age 26. The Colts expressed their condolences on Twitter.
