Chris Brown Faces Assault Trial in Washington, D.C.

Things might have taken a turn for the worse.

Chris Brown has been transferred to Washington, D.C. from Los Angeles, CA last week on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The 24 year-old singer has been behind bars with no bail since March 14.

He is currently in jail for violating his probation from his assault charge in 2009 involving Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time. Brown was staying in a rehab facility for several weeks in Malibu, CA as part of his probation. After Brown was kicked out of the facility, it was considered a violation of his probation and he was arrested.

The "Don't Think They Know" singer is in D.C. facing an assault trial. In October 2013, Brown allegedly punched a man in the face outside of a Washington hotel. The original charge was for a felony assault, but was reduced down to a misdemeanor.

However, according to TMZ, prosecutors took the case to the grand jury because they believe they have evidence to support a felony prosecution.

Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, filed a dismissal motion last week for the singer's release. He gave a statement to the news claiming grand jury abuse.

"To me this is outrageous. They stripped (Brown) of his right to a jury trial by filing this as a misdemeanor and then go abuse the grand jury to freeze witness testimony."
