There's been a wonderful edition to the royal family!
Kate Middleton had a baby boy on Monday, July 22. This is the first child for the new mom and Prince William.
The Buckingham Palace confirmed the news in a statement: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safety delivered of a son at 4:24pm. The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz."
The statement continued saying that the Duchess and her baby were doing well and that they would remain in the hospital overnight.
According to ABC News, the announcement came after Middleton had been in the hospital for more than 14 hours, though the baby was born several hours before the birth was announced.
The baby boy is third in line for the British throne after his grandfather, Prince Charles, and father, Prince William. Queen Elizabeth II is still currently on the throne and has been for 61 years.
A name for the newborn has yet to be announced.
