The "Tonight Show" Legend David Brenner Dies At 78

A comedian has gone, but his legacy remains.

David Brenner died this weekend on Saturday, March 15. His former rep, Jeff Abraham, gave a statement to a Us Weekly confirming the death.

"Legendary stand-up comedian and long time Tonight Show favorite, David Brenner, passes away at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with his final dragon, cancer. Brenner died peacefully at his home in NYC surrounded by his family at his side. David is survived by his wife, Ruth, his three sons, Cole, Wyatt, Slade and his grandson, Wesley."

Brenner was a popular guest on the Tonight Show. He made his first television debut on the show in 1962 with Johnny Carson and appeared on the show for 158 episodes. He even hosted the show a couple of times.

According to Us Weekly, Brenner made a request: one hundred dollars in small bills to be placed in his left sock "just in case tipping is recommended where I'm going." The legend said his final resting spot will read, "If this is supposed to be a joke-- then I don't get it!"
