Glee Star Cory Monteith Dies at 31 in Vancouver
Another star is gone.
Glee star Cory Monteith died on Saturday, July 13 in a hotel in Vancouver, Canada. The actor died two months after celebrating his 31st birthday on May 11.
Monteith checked into the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel the week before on July 6. He was due to check out on Saturday. When he didn't, the staff went to his room and found his body. The paramedics pronounceed him dead at the scene.
The Vancouver Police Department reported that Monteith was alone at the time of his death and that foul play was not suspected. Police Chief Doug Lepard said that "an autopsy is scheduled for Monday."
Melissa Kates, Monteith's publicist, confirmed his death in a statement. "We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss."
The British Columbian native voluntarily admitted himself into a rehab facility in March for substance addiction. In 2011, the star opened up about his struggles with drugs and alcohol with Parade. After he dropped out of high school when he was 16, he had a "serious problem."
The star completed the program in April. He was supported by his girlfriend, Lea Michelle, 26, who he had been dating for over a year.
Monteith was famous for his role on Glee as Finn Hudson, but also played other roles in Monte Carlo and Final Destination 3.
