Basketball player Daniel Gibson turned himself in on Monday, July 29 on an assault and battery charge.
He got into an altercation at a club in New Orleans on July 8, a little after 5 am. During the fight with the individual, he punched the man in the face, breaking his jaw.
Gibson, 27, gave a statement to TMZ: "Earlier this month during the Essence Music Festival, I was involved in an incident with other individuals while I was out with my wife. It's unfortunate that some see opportunity in taking advantage of people who work hard for what they have achieved."
According to TMZ, the former Cleveland Cavaliers player was released this morning at 11:09am. No other details have been released about the incident. Gibson hopes that his name will be cleared once all the details are known.
"Once all the facts of the incident come out, I expect to be fully vindicated."
Gibson is married to R&B singer Keyshia Cole, 31. They are parents to son Daniel, 3.
