David Cassidy, best known for The Patridge Family, is battling dementia. The 66 year-old actor and singer revealed his struggle with the disease during an interview with People Monday, February 20. "I was in denial, but part of me always knew it was coming."
Cassidy said that he watched his mother and grandfather suffer from it. He fears things will be the same for him as they were for his mom when she passed at 89.
"In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room... I feared I would end up that way."
The disease caused problems for the "Lyin to Myself" singer during a show on Saturday, February 18 in Agoura Hills, California. His speech was slurred and had a hard time remembering the lyrics to his songs. He almost fell off stage at one point, causing fans to believe he was intoxicated.
Cassidy has made the decision to stop touring so he can focus on his health. "I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I've been without distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy life."
