How old are they again?
Unlocking the Truth, a trio of eighth graders, just signed a deal with Sony Records that is worth up to $1.7 million dollar.
The trio- guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12, were discovered by Steve Jordan. The Grammy-award winning artist has been active in the boys career since 2012 when he saw them play in Manhattan's Washington Square Park.
According to Rollingstone, the record deal was submitted to a Manhattan judge for approval last week due to the fact that the band members are still minors. The deal includes: five albums, 16-17 percent royalties and a $60,000 advance. In order for them to receive the rest of the money, their first LP has to sell more than 250,000 copies.
Unlocking the Truth's performances haven't been limited to the streets of Manhattan. They have previously played at the Fun Fun Fun Festival, the AfroPunk Festival, and at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival this year.
These talented boys also have two upcoming opening performances for Queens of the Stone Age as well.
Just listen to them play!
