Who better to honor the actor than a long-time friend?
Billy Crystal will give a tribute to Robin Williams at the Emmys on Monday, August 25. This follows the news of the Oscar winning actor who committed suicide last week.
The Emmy's executive producer, Don Mischer, announced the news today at the red carpet roll out.
"We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable. Billy seemed like the perfect choice." Mischer also gave a statement last week about the tribute.
"Plans for the In Memoriam segment are in discussion. While we are still coming to terms with this week's tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves."
Williams, Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg hosted the Comic Relief from 1986-2010. It was a series of fundraising comedy telethons that raised money for the homeless.
When the news broke about Williams death, Crystal tweeted, "No words."
According to Us Weekly, singer Sara Bareilles will handle the musical portion of the tribute.
